i got my gp to do mine, but i've known her all the way through transition. so.

you could try ringing the grp helpline (can't remember it, but is on their website) and asking if your gp is sufficient. the people on the other end are really nice and friendly. then, if they say yeah, ask your gp about it. i figure you can tell enough truth to get it through. you don't have to tell them you've only seen him once, after all. plus, he has access to your medical records, so he knows the situation, even if he doesn't know you personally that well.

as an aside, james barrett did my primary report, and he'd met me *once*. so.

and charges less than half Dr Curtis does for basically the same thing...

I expect a lot of it's about responsibility. If someone gets a GRC signed by Curtis and their GP, and subsequently revert to their former gender and make a nuisance of themselves, it ain't going to be the GP whose livelihood is on the line...

Perhaps the GP who was around to prescribe Zoe's transition-related meds would be a better person to sign, but I bet they wouldn't have access to a former patient's records any more :-(

The second report doesn't need to be from someone whose a gender specialist, so your GP will be fine, I should think. All they need to do is provide proof that you're undergoing treatment, and seeing as you've seen your GP regarding a hormone prescription, that should count ^_^ Your GP can just copy out stuff from your medical records dating back however-many-years. I can't find the link now, but I remember when I was first researching the GRC I read something on one of the official sites that was along the lines of: We don't try and make you jump through hoops and provide a zillion pieces of evidence, but legally we've got to fulfil this certain criteria. As long as you follow the guidelines, we're not going to be arses about it.

I got Dr Martin, a consultant psychiatrist, at Durham County Hospital to do mine. The second opinion doesn't need to be a gender specialist.

Since I was fast-tracked I didn't need the psych report just the GP one. I filled in mine for the GP and got him to sign it. I'm sure your GP would be okay.
