Scraping the Cube: Part IV, Ejection Dejection

I borrowed a USB keyboard from ddmerillat in case the timing of pressing "C" was important. Apparently, it is. Now when I hold down "C", the Cube ejects the startup disc. This is an improvement over the previous result: spinning the disc up and then ignoring it ( Read more... )

What happens when you boot to Open Firmware (the Mac's BIOS equivalent), and type 'boot cdrom'?

I'm not sure you need to go down the Firmware update path.

Good thought. With only a PC keyboard, though, I'm having trouble figuring out "Cmd-Opt-O-F". The Windows key seems to be mapping to Cmd, but I'm not convinced Alt is mapped to Opt. I wonder if I should just wait for my Mother to bring hers the next time she visits.

the only key left is ctrl and apple keyboards have that too (types he from an MS split-keyboard)

Oh, and I've got a 6.06 PPC Ubuntu CD at my office. Its one of the ones I got from ShipIt, so it'll definitely work.
