Scraping the Cube: Part I

I have my Mother's Mac G4 Cube. Since my TV has a VGA input, I figured it would be fun to have a computer connected. The Mac Mini is beautiful, but a bit pricey. Ubuntu PPC is okay, however, I get the best performance out of PPC with Gentoo (since I compile everything with that from source).

Especially with older hardware, Gentoo is the way to go.

Oof. Isn't Gentoo hard to install and maintain?

Yes, if you're retarded and can't follow directions. ;-)

It can be a bit tricky to do the initial install, requiring a bit of command-line work.

However, those command-lines are well-explained, and are designed to be inputted verbatim (where applicable).

Maintenance is easy. I actually prefer Gentoo's package management, since it's really just a bunch of scripts that pull down source packages. So much easier for dependency and version checking than static binary packages. ;-)

But then again, I also have a few systems that were done with Linux from Scratch, whereby I compiled everything. By hand. No manual. No scripts. No fun, either. ;-)
