Jim Sorenson (one of the Allspark Almanac's writers) has posted some pages from the second Almanac on his blog.

Yoketron's entry with his protoform body is interesting. We may not know if this, as he was reborn, was like his former body underneath his armour but it confirms that most of what we see of Animated Transformers' bodies is armour and that likely Ratchet, Bulkhead, Optimus, Megatron etc's helmets for example can be put off.

And what's underneath isn't very pretty, and clearly, not like what fan artists have been drawing them like.
