So Animated is just about to be released in Japan. The focus has mainly been on the toys and their new paint jobs (which are either hardly different or terrible, judging by stolen samples).
Now we have cartoon information, and...well, the staff in Takara's Transformers department seem to be somewhat demented.
First of all, Animated is now a prequel to the live-action movies. Yes, you heard that right. This is apparently due to Optimus Prime not being the Supreme Commander of the Autobots in Animated. As Takara have lumped every TF series into one continuity, this means that Animated is somehow in the same timeline as G1 (and Beast Wars/Machines), the Unicron Trilogy, Robots in Disguise, Kiss Players, etc, which gives me a headache trying to figure it out.
This is also the reason behind Bulkhead being renamed Ironhide-he's supposed to be a younger version of the incredibly trigger-happy Ironhide of the movies. He's getting a personality change to match. Detroit, to put it simply, is screwed.
Oh, and according to the accompanying thread, it's not Detroit anymore, it's Hi-Tech city, where robots and humans coexist. It is not stated where this city exists, nor HOW THE HELL IT CAN EXIST IN THE MOVIE UNIVERSE.
The last change mentioned is that the episode order is getting changed to push the more major characters. Yay, more continuity issues!
Considering that the Japanese director of Animated is the same one who turned Beast Wars into a gag dub, I do not have high hopes for Animated, even more so after reading this.
Although the one good thing, it seems, is that the Japanese Animated toyline is going to be the outlet for all the toys which seemed to be stuck in limbo (namely Blackout, Wingblade OP, and Thundercracker), so at least some good will come of this madness.
