The Bates Drabble Tree
Time for a challenge to promote the Bates love - let's have a drabble tree!
What's a drabble tree?
As you probably know, a drabble tree is a set of drabbles branching off from each other each based on words or phrases from a previous drabble in the tree. In this case, each new drabble should use a word or phrase (or a whole sentence, if you like) from any drabble in the tree.
To take part, all you need to do is write a drabble, or something approximately drabble-length, and post it as a comment in reply to the one you're branching from. Please bold the word (or phrase, or sentence) you took from the previous drabble.
Any other rules?
Only one: You have to write about Bates. Otherwise, anything goes - gen, het, slash, any pairing or subject matter. (Yes, this is a Teyla/Bates comm. But we're having a free-for-all!) And you can write as many drabbles as you like.
Note that all drabbles may include spoilers up to and including Outcast. Please don't include any spoilers beyond that until after the next episode has aired.
Now come in and play - the challenge will run for one week.

The wonderful wojelah has provided a starting drabble for us - use any word or phrase from this to start off a new branch:
Teyla is with Colonel Carter when Ronon returns sans John and the SGC takes advantage of the opportunity to open a channel. The normal updates flow back and forth and she's content to let them wash over her without paying close attention. When Sergeant - Agent - Bates' voice joins in, her eyes fly to the screen. They'd heard almost nothing after they sent him home, and she has always wondered. And there he his, smiling on the screen, even if his temples are slightly grey and the lines around his eyes a little deeper. "Hello, Ms. Emmagan," he says.
