BATES BATES BATES BATES BATES BATES BATES.

I LOVE HIM VERY MUCH.

And he looked all HOT IN HIS TAC VEST and BUTTON DOWN SHIRT.

I LOVE HIM.

::squees::

::Loves::

And Bates and Ronon would make the most dynamic due EVER.

SERIOUSLY. Was Ronon, John, and Bates not the BEST THING EVER?

Okay, I shall stop abusing the caps button now.

HEEE!!!!!!

I just finished watching, and how awesome was this? Bates looked yummy, and he was wonderful - competent and no-nonsense as ever, and OMG, how smoothly did he and Sheppard work together? That was something I was really impressed by - their working relationship is a thing of beauty to behold. They seemed genuinely glad to see each other, and relying on each other without hesitation. YAY!

Poor boy, getting conked on the head again! But thankfully HE IS OKAY, OMG.

I hope they'll bring him back again. AGENT BATES OMG.

I just finished, and OMG! You are so right! He looked fantastic, and I loved the way he was himself, only more relaxed. I mean, he was still thinking of security concerns first, and still competent and no-nonsense, but also smiling and - oh, I'm so in love. The way he and Sheppard worked together? YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY.

Agreed on the concern about his poor brain, though. OUCH. AGAIN.

I will second wojelah's concern for the state of Bates's gray matter, but he was pretty much made of win. For all their disagreements on Atlantis, John seemed very glad to see him up and walking around, big smile, handshake, the whole works. And Bates seemed almost relaxed - smiling and confident and kicking ass with the IOA. I really hope they can work him into becoming a recurring character again.

One thing that kind of made me blink though, was...did he say he was honorably discharged from the Air Force? I thought all Sumner's men were Marines. Was that an oops? I may have to watch Rising again. WOE.

Also, Bates was totally hot when he was talking conspiracy. And Sheppard thought so, too.

That's what I really loved about it. They both seemed to be glad to see each other again. They respected each other and they didn't work against each other! Yay.

And it would be so great to have Bates back as a recurring character. But even if not, I'm very happy that we at least got this episode. They finally told us what happened to him. It always bugged me that they just shipped him off to Earth and he was never mentioned again on Atlantis. But finally we know what happened. Yay.

Wasn't it awesome, how smoothly they worked together? I was so happy to see that. God, I want him to become a recurring character so very much now. But as you say, just having had this bit of closure about his fate is a wonderful thing.

Me too. It was awesome and it made me squee! And he called Sheppard "Sir" when they meet again. And this time he meant it, not like back in season one when the "sir" was more like an insult. Heh.

I love that we finally know what happened to Bates. Sometimes this show does not do a very good job of letting us know the fate of secondary characters. Sora, anybody? Or Kavanaugh? Is he gone again or skulking around the bowels of Atlantis somewhere off-camera? LOL So it was really nice to know that Bates survived and is still fighting the good fight. And now we have the potential to see him in many more episodes. We all know how much the Gate verse likes to use recurring characters.

Yes! I'm so glad we got some closure, as well as a ton of new possibilities opened up. Chances seem pretty good that we'll be seeing him again - and hopefully it won't take two and a half years this time! I missed him terribly - he had a function on Atlantis that no one else has filled since, and of course he's pretty and intense and just all-around awesome. So yes, MORE PLEASE. *g*

And yeah, Sora is another one I'd really love to see again. Or at least hear from! (I think there was a rumour about Kavanagh earlier this year, though that may have been completely fabricated - at least it doesn't show up in the confirmed spoilers. But who knows?)

Yeah, there really isn't anyone who's part of the expedition who serves as a voice of opposition any longer. You get outsiders like Caldwell or Woolsey or Ellis but the expedition itself seems fairly well united at this point. I kinda miss Bates and Kavanaugh throwing a wrench in the works.

I hope the Kavanaugh rumor is true because that would make me very happy.

Someone said in comments to one of the fic discussions in sga_talk that since there's no explicit canonical mention of what happens to Sora, she imagine this Man in the Iron Mask scenario with the Marines elbowing each other every few days and saying, "Damn. Forgot to feed the prisoner." LOL

Exactly! You need an insider for that, outsiders just don't work the same way. I'm quite annoyed that there's no real internal conflict any more. Bates was perfect for that role, and I so wish they had kept him. But I'm glad we got him back, even if he's never going back to that role. BATES BATES BATES BATES BATES!!!!!!!! *bounces with glee*

she imagine this Man in the Iron Mask scenario

Hee! There was an outtake some time last season where the actors joked about Sora's fate, and it was remarkably similar. :D

I loved that Bates showed up again, in his brand new wonderful job with IOA! He looked scrumptious, and he smiled, which was awesome!

As for characters that seem to "disappear," in a way, it's good if no final event happens to them. That way, when an opportunity comes to use those characters (and the wonderful actors who play them!), they're not already dead!!!! Better off with a little less closure, and a lot more possibilities!

Love, max

Bates looked great, yes! And I'm so glad plenty of people seem to be happy about his return.

You're totally right that no resolution is better than DEAD! But this? This is exactly what I wanted, closure-wise, so even if he never appears again, I'll be happy. But I do hope that he will!

ETA: I AM DUMB! Totally got it wrong which post I was commenting on. Sorry about the nonsense!
