Been finding myself in a few Someone is WRONG on the Internet! debates of late, primarily around queer/ss-marriage issues. Keep running into the assertion that ss couples just want to "destroy" marriage, The Family (tm), etc. I can usually run interference on most points of fact these folks get wrong, but this one is always a head-scratcher for me ( Read more... )

Don't mean to start anything here but you fell into a common trap. Not everyone that votes conservative is a homophobe. I for one am in favor of SS marriage. If we straights have to suffer, why not every one else? Okay, just trying to be funny but a lot of mostly conservative people are not opposed to SS marriage. I have more problems with uber religious people than SS people and believe me I'm mostly conservative. Or maybe I'm more correctly a fiscal conservative and a social liberal. Hmmm. Issues are never black and white are they?

It's a matter of priorities. IMHO, human rights (of which gay rights are a critical part) take precedence over everything else. Human needs trump all, especially money issues, so folks who claim to be gay-friendly but who are willing to sell out their gay friends for paying 1% less in taxes aren't actually all that gay-friendly to begin with ( ... )

Thanks for not going ballistic! And you're right it is really hard to find any kind of candidate nowadays. The blue dog Dems are what used to be the Dem party. That was way back when I was a Dem. The party left me so I moved to the GOP and now they have left me. The Tea party is sorta okay because they have more in common with what I believe but they also have some things I can't go along with. I think maybe we should all go green and just recycle ALL of government. It is past time to return to the Constitution and the principals this country was founded on. As for human compassion I have a lot of that for those that deserve it but there unfortunately are a lot that don't deserve it. The way I see it the progressives are destroying the country. I believe the intentions are good but the result will not be. Okay, I will shut up now. I love you!

Heh. I love you, too. I think we both more or less want the same thing. We just disagree on how to get there because we have different basic philosophies and different sets of information on how the world works ( ... )

Ha! And I can be a stubborn young crank. Well, maybe not so young anymore. ;)

Actually, I'm quite glad to be 40, now, as it gives me much more justification to be the curmudgeon I've been since I was 6. ;)
