Well, OK, so it was really only about 8, if you shave off the biblio and the weird opening pages that APA style requires. It was about 2100 words total--a little less than half of the final size. I'm actually trying to do something fairly simple: I just want to show a range of average pay for a given profession across the U.S. I have the data and a basemap. I just need to figure out how to smush them together.

Essentially, I want to do a gradient that will have states with higher average pay in a darker color, and lower average pay in a lighter color. Sounds like it should be easy, but beyond simply pasting my numbers into a new field in the root dBbase file, I don't quite know where to go.

Theoretically, having gone through the training process for ARCMAP, I should know how to do this, but I'm lost.
