Update on the dentistry

Last week I went to the dentist after dealing with pain all weekend. She couldn't find anything wrong but strongly recommended a root canal on the front tooth. She prescribed a week's worth of penicillin, and a light does of Vicodin, did a bit of filing on the back of the front tooth to see if that would affect anything (it did, almost immediately ( Read more... )

Oh honey, I'm so sorry. I had a root canal just yesterday morning, so I sympathize with the pain, and the whole thing is costing just over $600. Usually, extractions are covered more than root canals and crowns, so hopefully it'll not be too expensive for you. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed! And I'll see you very soon! *HUGS*

Dental issues are a huge pain, but having to pay for a root canal out of pocket is far better than having your insurance pay for an extraction.

As far as the impacted molar goes, you could always try the dental school. They're pretty good at stuff like that. It is a more in-depth procedure than a normal extraction, but it's still fairly routine. Half of my wisdom teeth were impacted, and it's not much different than if they'd come through the gum.

Also, as a side note a lot of the drugs you're taking have the tendency to mess with one's stomach. It may be a good idea to eat come pro-biotic (uncultured) yogurt. It'll help put the good bacteria in your system that the antibiotics are killing off (in addition to being a tasty, healthy treat).

The impacted molar has been there since it came in. It's never given me any problems, I just wanted to double-check and reiterate with my dentist that it wasn't a problem and wasn't the cause of the sinus issues. It's weird, I had never realized I could feel it in my mouth until my dentist actually looked at it without the x-rays. But as long as it's not giving me any issues or try to erupt, it can just stay up there. It's the only wisdom tooth I have and I'm happy where it is.

As for the antibiotics, oh I know already!. Though I had hoped I would get away without dealing with all the fun things that come with it, but every one cropped up yesterday (and being female adds a yeast infection on top of the digestive tract fun) so I've certainly stocked up on probiotic yogurt.
