Saturday
Jeff and I got up about 7:30 and started packing as Friday was a late night. About 9:30, Mom drove up and we packed the car. Said goodbye to the kitties and we're on the road. The drive down was fairly uneventful until we hit the last bit of West Virginia and the rain caught up to us. It pours and is very foggy. Hotel is clean and

"Then it was time for a tour of the building, where I was thoroughly lost but intrigued by their costume collection. It is something of an entirely different genre than the one at OSU. When they say costume, they mean costume. They may have some vintage things, but they could still be used on stage for a production. At least that is what I was given to understand."
We have two separate collections, the costume stock collection (which is what you saw in the storage facilities, garments which are stageworthy or made for productions) and the CoStar archive (which is all vintage and antique garments being documented and preserved, and shared in the online database here). The online database contains about 10% of the total collection at present--our research assistants make a dent in it each year, but we also wind up receiving donations much faster than we can catalog them ( ... )

I was informed today as well that I would not be accepted into the program "I am glad that you enjoyed your visit--we were glad to have the opportunity to get to know you as well. Unfortunately, I won't be able to accept you this year into the program. It is good that you have another opportunity and I hear very good things about Savannah College of Art and Design. Ours is a very specialized program and I didn't feel that your goals matched what we expect of our students. You obviously have talent and will be successful in the future."
And I wonder if you could perhaps, if you know or are even allowed, to expand on what this means? Should I email her back and ask for her to expand as well?

I'm not involved in admissions decisions so i can't speak to that email on behalf of our department head; I would say to respond with that query to her, as she's the decision-maker.
I wasn't on your tour, so i don't know if you saw the CoStar stuff? It is essentially a huge number of boxes on shelves containing antique garments packed in archival tissue, and an office where the computer portion of the research takes place. There might not have been any of it out and in-process, since everything that wasn't Pride & Prejudice was on hiatus that day.
Again, sorry to hear that you weren't offered a place in the program. If you take the SCAD opportunity, i wish you the best of luck and look forward to hearing about your studies there.
