I'm at my mom's house. They got power back two days ago, but we're still waiting. I just called the insurance company to file the claim for my roof, and they were friendly and immediately paid out $150 for the food that was in my fridge. 'stina, you keep a good blog there, girl. It's the best I have read so far about Ike. I moved away a few years ago, 2006 to be exact, the year after Rita, the storm that was supposed to have crunched Houston and didn't. I evacuated to San Antonio then. I swore I would never put up with another hurricane, so off to central Texas I went! But, I lived in Houston for so long and am so sad to know how difficult it is for so many people. And the old trees you described in River Oaks! Oh, so, so sad. I guess it is the same way in West. U. and Rice area? Did Lamar Tower have any damage? Buffalo Spdwy @ W. Alabama? I guess that there is really no area untouched.
I just heard a news flash (a lead to 10 o'clock news) saying that "...a coastal town has been discovered as 100% gone and where are all the people?" Of course, they didn't say the name of the town so that you would watch the news, but it appeared to be south of Surfside. Well, anyway, hope that things fall back into place as quickly as possible for everybody.
