number 7 is very hard to get used to. it was really bad in boston and still is (i remember a guy holding the door open for me when i left a store and i literally asked him "you're not FROM here, are you?" with a smile on my face), and in new york, it's hit or miss depending on the situation. however, in jersey, i find people to be far more friendly and polite. go figure.
granted, it still doesn't compare to being home in houston and the various "pardon me", "excuse me", "hi, how are you today?" phrases that pepper the air constantly. i make a point of saying please and thank you all the time up here...just because, well, why the hell not? somebody has to start the politeness train, and it might as well be me.
