Twinkie

My family was shocked when we discovered that apparently my father had never heard of a Twinkie before Friday. We quickly educated him, even sending him to review the findings of the T.W.I.N.K.I.E.S project, a series of experiments on the snack food that occured right here in Houston in the mid-90s. He was a devotee once he sampled the product,

I'm flummoxed that anyone can reach that age without having at least heard of Twinkies.

In other news, I think flummoxed is a word that I'm going to strive to use more often.

Having met your dad, how the hell did he go this long without ever having one before?

Dunno. We thought maybe he had had one but never knew the name, but no. And it's not like he had the excuse that it was after his time. The wiki that we looked up said they were invented in 1930 and he was born in 1939. My mother who wouldn't ever voluntarily eat a Twinkie had heard of them.
