She woke up in the middle of the night, needing to, as her father had always put it, piss like a racehorse. She eased herself out of Sheldon's embrace and went looking for his bathroom. She did her business, then poked around for a minute. There was nothing wrong with being a little nosy in your new man's home. She sniffed at his bottles of cologne ( Read more... )

Sheldon's eyes snapped open and sat up in the bed. He looked to see if Sandra was still laying next to him, which turned out not to be the case. "Fuck." He quickly grabbed his robe and threw it on as he half ran out of his bedroom to find Sandra in his den and huddled down.

"Hey," he was down on the floor with her and put his arms around his lover in comfort, "tell me what happened?"

He returned to the couch slowly and sat down. There was something about the way she looked that caused him to stop. "No, don't worry about it. I shouldn't have gotten upset. She's your daughter and I'm just the boyfriend. I hadn't earned that right yet to know that so...don't worry about it. I won't say anything."

... I have wanted to steal that line for Sandra forever. YAY! texan_housewife October 30 2010, 15:19:53 UTC
"You wouldn't believe..." She stopped, shaking her head. "Most of it sounds like I'm crazier than a mule in a ferris wheel, sugar."

It's a good line. XD sands_in_mexico October 30 2010, 15:57:33 UTC
"Try me." He sets his beer on the table and slides down to sit next to Sandra.

I stole it from a webcomic. It always made me think of her. *laughs* texan_housewife October 30 2010, 16:04:15 UTC
She raised her head to stare into his eyes. She felt like she could trust Sheldon with anything. But she'd felt like that before... No. She couldn't live like this. She couldn't lie to him. "There're people out there with super powers," she said softly, eyes never leaving his face. He had to believe her.

Hey, it works too! XD sands_in_mexico October 30 2010, 16:14:10 UTC
He hadn't left her gaze. He was giving her his undivided attention and remained as objective as he could. "And these people....are they being hunted?" It was an educated guess since he knew that his Agency would probably have a special division set up just for that reason only they wouldn't try to kill them.

*Grins* I certainly thought so. texan_housewife October 30 2010, 16:18:34 UTC
"Yes," she said softly, looking away. "There're... couple different groups." She wrapped her arms around herself. "That I know of."

He had to think carefully on this. He put his arms around her shoulders and let her talk at her own pace.

"Noah worked for both of 'em," she said shortly.

Sheldon's face hardened. The fact that she was married to a double agent didn't set well with him at all. His first thoughts were snake and backstabber and other choice words that he didn't want to repeat. "You mentioned that he worked for a paper company....but this....is wide open. You don't have to tell me any more."

He could only imagine the hurt from just living with this fear day in and day out with a snake that got sloppy.

"The paper company... that was a front. The whole thing. He worked for 'em for fifteen years. Then they tried ta take Claire back." Her expression turned grim. "That's when we ran." And when he'd promised to stop lying to her.

"Okay." He nods his head. There was a lot missing and getting all of it was going to take a lot of time. Fifteen years was the amount of time that he was an agent and he's never heard of this. Being overseas had it's disadvantages. "Why did they want her back seems a bit austere at this time so instead I'll ask who wanted her back?"

"The Company." She sighed. "They gave her to Noah to keep an eye on. She was just a baby, her momma had died in a fire, and... well, we were havin' trouble. So we adopted her. But Noah got closer than the meant him to, and when she... she... He wouldn't bring her in for testin'."

Everything that she was saying was sounding like something out of a science fiction novel. He didn't understand it but he didn't dismiss it either. All he could do was listen. He simply had no answers for what he's listening to. The fact now that Claire was adopted made his tilt his head slightly. "Maybe at the time, Noah's intentions were good. He lost his way somewhere."

"It was a crazy time," she whispered. "And he just... couldn't handle it." Couldn't handle being 'normal'. Couldn't handle life at home. She just wasn't enough, not any more.

"Hey," he pulled her close and moved to where he was tight against her side, "he's the mook that messed up. If he loved you and those kids, he would have tried. He didn't. I don't know him to judge him but I do know that no father would ever do that to their family and he wasn't one. He was pretending to be something that he could never be and he messed up.

Hell, I know agents in my department that have been married, some divorced, but they tried. Some of them just got in a little over their heads in their job and lost sight of what was the most basic and the most important. He's no better. You know that old saying, 'Behind every good man, there's a good woman'. He forgot that."
