Hana Yori Dango

I just finished reading the complete manga series Hana Yori Dango ("Boys Before Flowers")!  :D  It's the best-selling shojo manga in Japan and has been adapted into live-action dramas in Taiwan, Japan, and Korea.  This is only the second time I've finished a manga series.  The first one was Kagen no Tsuki ("Last Quarter of the Moon" on which HYDE's ( Read more... )

I really want to read the HYD manga sometime, it sounds great. I loved the j-dorama series based on it to bits, which is why I think I'd actually bother with the manga as well... XD Try the drama sometime, if you're feeling up to it. Awesome actors.

They've made two seasons of the HYD jdrama as well as a movie which is set after season two. I don't know who you would know, but the F4 is played by Matsumoto Jun (JE guy from Arashi, has been in jdramas like Kimi wa Petto & Gokusen), Oguri Shun (my favorite Japanese actor, he's been in everything from GTO to HanaKimi), Matsuda Shota (brother of Matsuda Ryuhei who played Ren in the first NANA live action movie), and Abe Tsuyoshi (Zettai Kareshi, Koizora), while the female lead is done by Inoue Mao (who I personally think is quite epic in the role XD).

Wait, it was cancelled before the end? Isn't that, like.. disturbing? :/

Wow, 2 seasons and a movie? it must've been super popular. i wonder if all three were based on the manga, or just the first season and the rest were written as a continuation? because the korean BBF fits the whole series in 25 eps.

ah, i don't think i know any of the actors. ^^; i may have read matsumoto jun's name somewhere...? i've been meaning to check out HanaKimi because i heard a lot of good things about it. have you watched it?

sorry, i didn't mean it was cancelled before the end. (that would indeed be disturbing!) it definitely has an ending, although the story really could have continued. personally, i think the writing had become kind of tedious by vol. 30 instead of moving the story along, so after such a long series, the ending itself is a bit rushed. it's a fitting one though, and a few years later, the mangaka released a bonus chapter which sort of continues the story or leaves it open for continuation in the future.
