Chapter Eleven
“What? You’re in the hospital? Did you get in an accident?! It’s Taichi’s fault, isn’t it?” Shouhei roared fiercely. “I can’t believe this! I’ve only been gone for three days and you’re already in trouble?!”
Kame snorted. “Excuse me? Who do you think you’re talking to? You’re exaggerating too much. We’re not in trouble and we didn’t get into an accident. It’s… Ryuu-chan. He’s… well, I think he’s sick.” the young father’s voice became subdued. “He and Hayato are being tested right now.”
“Oh. I’m… really sorry to hear that.” Shouhei disposition became serious. “Is it… something serious? Do you think it’s the same as Rikka’s?”
“God, I hope not. I really hope not. He’s too young… he can’t be…” Kame tried to stifle his sobs.
“That’s it. I’m going back there.” Shouhei said in a resolute tone.
“Don’t. This is the first vacation you had since you’ve been working so hard last year. You earned it! Don’t worry about Ryuu-chan because Taichi is here with us. We’ll call you if there are any updates… good or bad.”
“No, I’m leaving for Tokyo now. I don’t… want to leave you alone. Not right now, and especially not with Taichi Saotome.” Shouhei cleared his throat. “I also miss the kids.”
Kame was touched with the other’s concern. “But you don’t have to come back so early. We can manage it here. And you know you can’t come back without any souvenirs.”
“Hah!” Shouhei yelled victoriously. “I’ve already bought them. I’m going home now and you can’t stop me.”
The older of the two sighed. “Okay, fine. Drive safety on your way back, okay?”
“Oh, I’m not driving. I’m taking the train. It’s much faster that way. What hospital are you in right now?”
Kame gave up trying to convince the man otherwise. After giving the other instructions and directions to the hospital, he went back inside the private suite that Doctor Aizawa requested.
“It took you that long to make that phone call?” Taichi frowned disapprovingly. “Let me guess, he’s blaming me again for something that I didn’t do?”
Jin looked interested but lost from his side of the room, staring at Taichi and Kame back and forth.
“Yeah.” Kame grinned then sighed. “I really wonder why he’s not fond of you.” he glared disapprovingly at Taichi. “And you’re not so fond of him too. Why is that?”
“You should have listened to me when I said not to befriend him.” Taichi scowled. “I don’t like him.” He huffed a little. “And he’s too clingy. You do know not to get close with those types of people, right? They’re like… rapists and stalkers in the near future.”
“You know he’s nothing of that sort.” A teasing smile appeared on Kame’s beautiful face. “Aww~ are you jealous?”
“What?!”
“You are jealous!” Kame hummed in an irritating way. “Don’t worry because he’s not interested in me.”
“Says the densest man I have ever known! Trust me when I say this, Kazu-chan. He likes you and he hates me because he knows you love me more than him.” Taichi victoriously said.
“Well, you tell him your theory when he gets here.” Kame took a seat on his hospital bed.
Taichi snapped. “What?! Now he’s coming here? I thought I finally got rid of him for two weeks, why is he coming back so soon?” he yelled out childishly.
“Hey, I told you, tell that to his face.” Kame tsk’d. “You two should just get along better. It’ll help with my migraine if you just made up.”
“Hmmp.” Taichi had his arms in akimbo, ready to retort something when the door opened slightly, revealing Hayato, Ryuu and Aizawa-sensei.
“I was on my way out of the lab when I saw them being led out of the testing rooms.” Aizawa explained with a boyish smile on his face as he bowed slightly to greet the other occupants of the room. “I thought it would be proper to escort them back here.”
“Thank you.” Kame bowed in thanks. “You really shouldn’t have. We told the nurse to page us once the tests were done.”
Aizawa waived his right hand, shushing Kame up. “It’s okay. I wasn’t busy anyways.”
Jin, still feeling out of place, caught the attention of the twins and they immediately sauntered to Jin’s bed.
Kame smiled as his gaze followed the twin’s figures fleeing straight to Jin.
“So,” Aizawa started. “How’s your stay? Do you like this room I requested for you?”
Kame nodded. “Yeah, thank you for going all the trouble of arranging it for us.”
“No problem.” Aizawa smiled. “These suites are actually for government officials and since there are no officials hospitalized today, they made arrangements to let you use it for a while.”
“Thank you.” Taichi butted in. “That was sweet of you.”
“It was my pleasure.” Aizawa said kind-heartedly.
“I’m hungry.” Hayato suddenly burst out to Jin. “Are you hungry Uncle Jin?”
Jin scratched his head. “Um… sure. Do you want to go to the cafeteria?”
Kame’s attention snapped back to the twins and Jin. “I can take you to the cafeteria, pig.” He teased his oldest son. “Are you hungry too my little dragon?”
“See? That’s unfair!” Hayato pouted and sat himself on Jin’s lap. The older man looked surprised at how comfortable Hayato was with him. “Why does Ryuu have such a dignified nickname while I get pig?”
“Because you are a pig!” Ryuu saw to it that he joined his father in teasing his twin.
“Unfair!” Hayato grumbled and looked up at Jin. “See what I have to put up with? They’re all abusing me with these names that I’m not!”
Jin could only pat the young boy in the head for support.
Aizawa looked amused. “Hayato-chan?”
Hayato’s attention turned to the doctor. “Hm?”
Aizawa went to the direction of Jin, Ryuu, and Hayato. He gave a small smile at Jin before kneeling down to look at Hayato straight in the eye. “You know, pigs are known to be the smartest domestic animal on earth. You should be proud of your pet name.”
Hayato brightened up. “Really?” he turned to Jin with a smile. “Hear that Uncle Jin? We’re both intelligent!” it was obvious that the small boy was overjoyed with the little trivia that Aizawa shared.
The doctor stood up and faced Kame. “Thank you.” The father mouthed.
“You’re welcome.” Aizawa mouthed back and grinned. Stealing a glance at the wall clock, he sighed and excused himself. “I better go. I’m scheduled to do an operation in 30 minutes. I’ll pass by again sometime.”
Taichi, the twins and Kame waived goodbye while Jin just nodded.
“Are you still up for that cafeteria visit, Hayato?” Kame asked as soon as Aizawa was out of the door.
“Call me pig!” the boy announced.
The other occupants of the room laughed at Kame’s stunned look.
