Delightful; just perfect for a cold day here on LI. I find it interesting - Inarra's watching, studying Mal and River. She watches because she doesn't understand, I think. How did she lose her luster in his heart? I think that's what she's wondering. Maybe a tad jealous, too.
'Splainy, please: "I know," River said. "I'm again. completely in agreement." Is it a punctuation thing? or did I miss something?
my bad, of course---I haven't decided to start doing blank verse....yet.
Anyway, I thought it would be just like Mal to think he's standing anonymously in a crowd, so he can be (for him) relaxed with River in public. And, that it would be like River to guard him from Inara's gaze, even when River would prefer to lay everything open and be done with the wondering. And rub it in a tad, because she's human.
It's nice to see how relaxed Mal is when River is with him. He may not say it but he shows he loves her by doing little things. I wonder if Inara is still in denial after seeing that?
I don't think it's denial as much as disbelief---she literally can't believe it. And, if you look back, Inara's not there to see them doing anything demonstrative. Or so I was intending!
I love the moments. The tag of the shoes... Kaylee and Jayne... their comfort with each other... knowing it was Inara before you said it was Inara. You write River beautifully.
It's all about Nathan...tesla321November 12 2007, 23:26:33 UTC
See, it started with me getting the new edition of "Serenity", then seeing "Waitress", then seeing "Slither", then seeing Nathan guest on Ellen, then seeing the Outer Limits, then there was "Outing Riley", and I have "Waitress" on pre-order, then there's "White Noise 2" coming out in January...
I find him inspirational. Heh. And as long as someone's reading, I'll type merrily on.
