"The Old Rugged Cross".

I mean, !!!!

This is me: first 0_o and then \o/ .

(And what does it say about our modern church music that Danae did not recognize the song? I HAVE FAILED MY CHILDREN.)

There may possibly be more coherence tomorrow. Then again, there will definitely be more drugs tomorrow, so possibly not.

Me too! And singing along. I couldn't believe the words were intact in the Year 5 Billion!

::hugs for the (need for) drugs::

I know! I think RTD was trying to show that these people were trapped and all their faith--whether in the police, or any authorities, or God--was in vain, and that the songs were just keeping them happy enough to keep going ("Religion is the opiate of the masses", Karl Marx?). Witness the Doctor's "O HAY UR RELIJN SUX BUT I WIL SAV U!" expression.

But I think I got a message he didn't intend out of it--that if those songs have survived five billion years, then enough people are finding faith worthwhile enough to keep passing it along. And all the people singing along were getting some strength out of it, some emotional connection to something bigger than their own little worlds.

And then when they were set free, they were still singing!

I have got to get it together enough to do a post on this ep, even though I haven't the other two. I could drag in Paul and Silas singing in the prison and everything.

I couldn't believe they were singing that song and the one at the end, either! Of course, I highly doubt English will be in any way similar to its current form in the year 5 billion, especially given how much it has changed in just the past few hundred years. Blast you, you demons of higher education!! *shakes fist*

Danae really should recognize that song. And I thought you went to a small church....don't you use the Sing Unto the Lord song books??

We don't use song books at all. We may be small, but we are fairly modern in our music; we hardly ever sing any old songs. Which is a shame, because some of them, like this one, are most excellent and every Christian should know them.
