Capt. Jack is Scottish and lives in England? I would've never guessed. That's a pretty good American accent he has.

As a child he spent several years living in America, so he does it pretty well. I think he uses it most of the time; I don't know why, unless he thinks it makes him more marketable?

In his interview on the Charlotte Church show he indicated that while he uses his American accent most of the time, he always reverted to his Scottish accent when with his family, but that his partner found it seriously disconcerting since they'd met through friends who knew JB as an actor, so the American accent was the "real" one.
