We thought they were being progressive and forward thinking, but no, they just took ten steps back.

Stands to reason, dunnit? Bloody pooftahs should all be shot. And liberals. And blacks. And people who start sentences with "and".

I pause from my diatribe only to bleed profusely.

And what's wrong with starting a sentence with "and", pray tell? I used to disapprove as a kind of Fowlerian-Pavlovian response, but Bryson has since convinced me the objection is baseless.

But then again, maybe I'm misunderstanding the extent of your sarcasm…

Personally, I think it was entirely right and proper that the marriage should have been annulled - it wasn't legal. While I'm all in favour of quietly overlooking inconvenient pieces of legislation and hoping the plod also turn a blind eye, the whole purpose of marriage is as a public statement; blind eyes will not be turned.

What they should do, of course, is get the law changed. Then everything will be hunky-dory.

The French are weird anyway. On a the positive side I think all the publicity has actaully helped the gay marriage movement in a roundabout way. Of course they might win on appeal!

A major has to respect the law gwendraith July 27 2004, 05:54:48 UTC
In that precise case, the Major involved in this action tried to make his own advertisment and did not respect the law. Nothing to do here with freedom and progress. M. Mamère (green -- left wing) is also a member of the French Parliament, hence he has the power to vote the law. There, I could see nothing else than a kind of presure on the actual gouvernment (right wing).

France is not ready for adoption by homosexual. I do not think either that many country all over the world allow it.

Thankfully the suffragettes didn't respect the law either.

The new socialist government is working on a new law for allowing homosexual weddings (with the same rights than a straight marriage).

It is supossed to be ready in late 2004 early 2005. Actually, it's just the reflex in a law the hetero and homo feelings.

Teo.
