That required an excessive expenditure of energy and angst to ask such a simple question.

Not an easy question, but a simple one.

Nonetheless, it was a thought-provoking entry which is a rare find. Bravo.

So, to answer this simple question:

No one cares. Apathy. If it does not reside upon one's doorstep - or around one's throat - one does not care.

It is quite a normal human condition, albeit a self-destructive one. Or at least a societal-ly destructive one.

How sad. Where have all the humanitarians gone?

There have never been any 'humanitarians'. Only egotistical swots with more money then sense, wanting to boost their own self-worth by proclaiming to care about the 'less fortunate'.

No one does anything which does not immediately and directly benefit himself. The earlier in life you learn that lesson, the less-likely you are to be blind-sided by life's ironic cruelties.

I wasn't blind-sided by life's ironic cruelties, but thanks for the concern all the same.

And while I'm tempted to agree - altruism has yet to be discovered, etc. etc. - at least, they help the people, whether they actually care or not. I mean, if Mr. X has to donate so many hundreds of thousands of pounds to the needy to feel like people will respect him, so he does it - that's fine with me.

I didn't cry for a very long time (this was a recent period in my life). But if I had, I would have, every time I heard that song. Les Miserables, indeed.

I don't know much of why--that's the question I'm meant to ask. Been picking away at the foundations of it for a while now, as it were.

Definitely touching. I don't cry either, actually.

I was told by another that it's because people don't care. I disagree - I care.

I agree with you. I'm pegged by some as an unfeeling shell, but sometimes I think the internal reverberations of events shake me more than anyone really understands.

Ah, that sounded egotistical enough, yes?

At any rate. I did cry not too long ago, and it almost killed me.

It may sound egotistical, but that doesn't mean it is. I understand what you mean.

Because my reaction isn't one as blatant as tears pouring down my face, doesn't mean I didn't feel anything - yes?

What did it feel like?

Who cares why? You're still really weird.

And you're still the problem.

I would rather be the supposed problem than you, wasting your time worrying about it.

Then, it's good we are where we are, isn't it?
