Aftermath...

The short version of my job woes--I'm looking for a new one. I got my expectations high and I should have known better. Luckily, the job market looks pretty hot for accountants, so I'm not worried. Hopefully I'll find something more lasting.

The long version is long. )

I'm with your Mom from the last post. Compliments are nice but they're also cheap and they don't pay the pickle man. I wouldn't blame you if you walk.

I hate to say it, but my parents have been right about everything thus far and I should have left months ago. But despite all of the pain, I have been learning things and gaining experience around the company sale. It doesn't make up for everything, but it hasn't been a complete waste either. The new VP of Finance starts next week and I'll be able to officially say that I'm not interested in continuing with the new company. If they offer a reasonable retention bonus, I'll stay. If it's a joke and I'll make more money elsewhere, I'll go. I'm an accountant--I know how the math goes. :)

-hugs- I'm glad the job market is looking up for you at least! >> I'm afraid to come home sometimes when I hear about what's going on with teachers.

Oh yes, the market is very interesting right now. Last I heard, the accounting job market is like 4% unemployment while the rest of the country is 8%. And if I get the stellar recommendations that I'm expecting, it shouldn't be a terrible job hunt.

Got to say that I've always been amazed by teachers and just how much crap they are willing to deal with from the kids, parents, and the administration. You are a different breed.

Job stress is always awful. :( I get super stressed from mine and I don't have to deal with even 1/3 of the crap-ola you do. Somedays you just have to try and make the best of it and most days it's just having the willpower not to punch people. Being swamped is hard but you should try and find some time for yourself. :)

Honestly, it's not the stress that is the worst part for me--it's the idea that I can work as hard as time/sanity will allow, but it means very little when I'm going to have to start over with a new company. There's no return on my investment, and that makes it harder to work and care.

Haha, we'll see when I can find time for myself. Just today, I had to agree to work the last Saturday of the month. But hey, if I actually get offered a retainer bonus and/or severance, then I might take some time off when all of this is over. :)

From the sounds of it the company is going down the toilet, so you're probably better off trying to find something else. Or wait until it's finished, hopefully get a big cheque at the end for your troubles. My husband lost out on at least four cheques from the companies he left that went down shortly after.

Good luck with whatever you do. And no job is worth it if it has you running to the bathroom in tears. Fuck them.

*nods* I'm not too optimistic about the new company. The new CEO was the VP of Sales, aka someone who really talks a good talk. He also works damn hard to get things done, but I think he has a really shiny pair of rose-colored glasses about the state of things to come. Worse, there's another person who is talking about leaving and she is the master of all the service contracts, aka our business. Without her, this company is going to struggle for a long time before either breaking or succeeding.

Very good point about getting paid at the end of a dying company. We were on the edge of having no cash before half of the company was purchased. There is a very good chance this next company will meet the same fate. Luckily, this is just the beginning and they have the cash from the sale--I should get paid if I leave now. :)

Yeah, those are big warning signs. I felt that at my previous job with a Japanese electronics company. There was talk about being sold to another company, almost all incentives reduced to zero, benefits reduced, hours added without any compensation... When I joined it was just after 9/11 so any job was a godsend, but by the time I left, the job market was up again. So now is probably a good time to at least fish around to see what's out there for you!
I spawned! Also managed to name my boy Zack. :D I don't think my hubby has caught on that it's a FF7 character. Heeheehee.

Oh wow, many congrats to you and the spawn!!! Hahaha, I love it when spouses sneak in things like that. A friend made her wedding colors the same as the Avalanche (the hockey team I adore), a rival to her husband's hockey. By the time he realized, it was way too late. :D But hey, at least Zack is a good, normal but strong name. Don't think I've ever met a Zack I didn't like.

Yeah, it sucks when a company gets pulled out from under your feet. I'm also a dumbass who is too loyal for my own good. Then again, it's probably the same reason I'm so stuck on Squall and Seifer, so it's not a completely worthless trait of mine. :)
