[ walking into an empty police station at night isn't something usual people do. only one light's on; the one Riku stands under as he works to find out the percentage of closed cases versus cold cases. every manilla folder he checks is collected into a stack, and then there's a tally added onto the corresponding side of the board with a red marker

[ Riku's not the only person still at the police station though, if the sound of footsteps echoing in the near empty halls is any indication.

A short guy in a janitor's uniform with ear buds in his ears makes his final rounds about the place, ready to get out of there, only not because of the blizzard that's just raging outside. It's not gonna be fun walking home in that but he'll eventually have to do it. He's just taking a little bit longer in leaving the station.

Roxas stops short though when he sees that there's someone still here, apparently working overtime. Or just not wanting to go out in the storm either. ]

Uh, hey. Shouldn't you be heading out?

[dualstance]

[ It takes a second for Roxas to figure out who Riku's talking to, but eventually it clicks at the mention of eating ice cream. He remembers looking at a wastebasket and seeing waaay too many popsicle sticks in it, always wondering who in the world would eat that many in one day. Until he finally saw the man in passing, eating another one while on his way to wherever it is he's going.

He never did pay attention to all the officers around the place since they tend to ignore him, leaving him to his job. Not to mention he's always listening to music while on the clock. It just makes the time pass quicker. ]

Oh! So that's who that was. [ a small laugh ] I was wondering who the guy that ate so much ice cream was.

[curepotion]

It's sort of ridiculous.

[ he lightly laughs, then--looks surprised at his own reaction.

a laugh? he's not used to laughing. unreadable emotions pass his face. ]

[dualstance]

Yeah, it is.

[ He checks another file and marks it down as 'unsolved' which is a little surprising. First one in however many he's gone through already. So he doesn't notice Riku's reaction to the short laugh that he heard.

There's still an amused smile on his own face. ]

I always wondered what kind he ate. Must be pretty good if he eats so much of it.

[curepotion]

He says it's sea-salt ice cream. [ he gently shakes his head as he's reminded of it.

he knows that he started eating it when he went on an exchange trip to Japan and ever since, he'd scoured markets to make sure they had it. and there is an exotic shop that imports it, so he's quite happy to spend a few dollars for his unending ice cream affinity.

Ansem never told him any of that. but he still knows. ]

Sea-salt? Sounds weird.

[ As much as he likes his ice cream, Roxas isn't sure he'd be willing to try something like that. How can an ice cream be salty and sweet at the same time? That just didn't make any sense.

But. Maybe he should try it at least once. Who knows, he might like it.

He looks at another file before looking curiously at Riku. ]

Have you ever tried it?

[curepotion]

He's forced it on me a few times.

It's really not that bad. You should try it.

[dualstance]

Ah, well. [ He marks another down for 'closed.' ]

If I ever find it, I will.

[curepotion]

You will. [ a light shrug, and he marks something down for the cold category, his face unreadable for that split moment. ]

[dualstance]

[ He looks up from the file he's reading, a little surprised and curious. ] You think so?

[curepotion]

I know so. [ that's still something normal people say, right? ]

[dualstance]

[ a soft chuckle as he marks another for 'closed' ] Well, when it comes to ice cream, I'm usually pretty good at finding a flavor people tell me about.

[ Yep, still has no clue that Riku just knows. ]

[curepotion]

[ Riku is quite okay with that.

if Roxas doesn't know, he'd rather not tell him. ]

A talent?

[dualstance]

I guess. [ He gives a sheepish smile, scratching the back of his head. ] Or maybe I just like eating ice cream. Not like your partner though.

[curepotion]

I don't think anyone likes eating ice cream like Wyse...

[dualstance]

Probably not.

[ See Riku, you're not so bad. You can be social. Kind of. ]
