Summary: Nathaniel Taylor's wife is dead... Again. Gone forever, along with his unborn son. He's sure of this. He saw them get murdered with his own two eyes, even as he hid their daughter's from the sight. So, Mira has to be lying to him when she says she's alive, right? It's not possible. He can't trust her, can he?
Author's Note: This is my first post on LJ... I do want to do the site and the show justice, so feedback would be wonderful! :)
He's not ashamed to say he cries, because it's just a factor of life, an emotional outlet no one, even the great Commander Nathaniel Taylor, can seem to get away from. He's ashamed that he lets his daughter see him in such a condition as he's in, crying silently in a ball, holding her pillow like it can replace her.
"Daddy?" He can't help the pitiful sob that escapes his throat at the face of the two year old in front of him. She's all Alicia, excluding her ghostly, beautiful blue-grey eyes that his wife had so loved. He clears his throat and takes a deep breath in a failed attempt to prevent his voice from breaking when he speaks.
"What is it, Kensi?"
"Mama and bwother come home?" What's left of his fatherly dignity is shattered when a strangled sob escapes him. Kensi's little hand comes to his face, catching the majority of the tears on his right cheek, and her head cocks to the side (just as Alicia's did when she questioned him).
The look of innocent, curious ignorance on the toddler's face... He wants to die. Maybe death would make the pain go away... Nothing else does.
"No, Kensi. Mama and brother are never coming home." He doesn't really know if, or how, you should tell a child that their mother and unborn baby brother were dead, gone forever... And even more so, that their big brother is the one who murdered them.
He doesn't think she really understands his words, because the tears that blur her eyes are accompanied with a confused expression, rather than a sad one. He scoops her up into his arms and lies down with her, cradling her against his chest with a grip that's probably less than comfortable. She seems to welcome the embrace anyways.
It isn't long until she's back asleep, but he's up long after that sobbing into the pillow, wishing Alicia was there to comfort them in the amazing, soothing way she had always done before.

"Lucas!" Mira runs to catch up with the man stalking away from her. "She has severe scarring deep into her abdomen from what I understand to be a near-fatal explosion in Somalia! She's getting bigger by the day and the first child put far too much strain on the scars for her not to be under constant medical watch when she's this far along in the pregnancy. Eventually, her torso is going to stretch and rip and she and the baby are going to die if you don't let me get them back to the colony!"
"Good! I goddamn tried to kill the two before and it didn't work. The woman is fucking invincible. I'll give her that. A high-powered sonic wave to the head can't even kill her... Maybe the devil spawn can do the job." He spits venomously.
"Lucas!" Mira tries, one last time, to convince him, but gets cut off by a blow to the face. She hits the ground.
"I don't understand why you're care so goddamn much anyways. I thought you hated her and my father." Mira stands, a defiant air in her eyes and chin raised.
"At least they’re not batshit crazy like you." She grinds out against her better judgment. Lucas' eyes glaze over with the same evil, twisted shine he got when he shot the lieutenant in the head. He wants to kill her. Mira's momentarily scared as his hands drift to the gun on his hip, but he stops and his eyes clear again, this time just filled with a quickly burning fire.
"I hope to God that you try to escape with the whore and what's left of our bitches. It will just give me more of a reason to torture you all slowly until you're begging me to kill you." He walks away and she stares after him before rushing off to the west. She enters a tent made of heavy canvas and tree limbs.
"How bad is the pain on a scale of one to ten?" She asks the woman lying on the cot just inside the makeshift shelter, closing the flap that creates the doorway behind her.
"A hundred?" Lieutenant Washington answers through bared teeth, cradling her swollen stomach. It’s impressive she can still gather the energy to be a smart ass, in Mira’s opinion.
"Okay... Okay..." Mira paces back and forth, one hand on her hip and the other gripping her hair. "I'm going to go find Carter and bring him back here and we're going to plan our escape. We're going to get you out of here, Wash."
Mira's almost out of the tent when Washington calls her back. She sticks her head back in.
"Why are you doing this?" Alicia asks. "You hate me, you hate Taylor. Why are you risking your life for me and HIS child?"
"I hate Lucas more... And besides, it's time I make amends for the selfish things I've done and the evil and chaos I've helped cause..." A soft smile replaces the scowl that usually adorns Mira's face and Wash suddenly realizes, Mira has never hated her or Nathaniel. They were just standing in her path to her daughter.
"I can't say I'd have done any different if it were Kensi and me in your situation." Wash responds. Mira shakes her head.
"You're a far better woman than me, Alicia Taylor." The use of her husband's name with her own makes Mira's statement all the more meaningful for a reason she can't fathom. "You would've found better way."
"Thank you, Mira." Mira's face, after one last fleeting look of guilt and regret, is returned to its hard, unreadable mask.
"I'll be back with Carter as soon as I can... Dolan is still posted outside if you need anything." At the sight of the flinch that accompanies Alicia's understanding nod, Mira is gone.
