Здравствуйте!

So, I've been taking Russian, thus keeping up the liberal arts major spirit of total impracticality. I'm still at that awful "learning the alphabet" stage. It's worse, because I've previously studied Greek, which means that I want to read most of the letters like their Greek counterparts (similarly to how I pronounce all non-English languages with ( Read more... )

Ah! I almost took Russian in college. It was between that or Japanese (My grandfather spoke Japanese, my father took Russian- that's why those languages). I ended up taking Japanese, since Big Dad had always wanted me to learn, but I wish I'd taken Russian too.

And yes, that would be me keeping up with the total impracticality spirit of my Liberal arts education too LOL. I needed to stay full time to keep my insurance, but only needed a two art classes so you know, I figured I'd learn language I could totally forget 5 years later ^^;;

I love the work you've done at vigils so far! DW is hard for me to work with (stylistically). I'm glad you figured it out. I'm following. :)

I think the styles themselves are more clear than LJ's, in that they're clearly designed to be customized with CSS and marked up for that reason. BUT!! I get that people are used to LJ's system and like what they already know.

Russian rules; I took it for a year in high school. Which consisted mostly of watching weird Soviet-era cartoons. Just be prepared to write "N"s backwards for the rest of your life (I do)!

Haha, I go to a liberal arts college (er--normally, I'm abroad in Paris this year) and actually have a ton of friends who take Russian! They all love it, though, so I hope despite the cross-alphabet confusion, you're enjoying it! That's a language I never had a particular interest in learning, despite my love for languages, but after all that my friends have said, I'm really quite curious!

I'll be following your community on DW! I'm dearly :)

Hahaha I guess I've been in Europe a while, because I immediately thought football as soccer and was a little confused. I've never been super into American football, but I've recently looked into it somewhat minimally because of all the fuss about Tim Tebow!

It delighted me that I could read your title! Cheers to my useless knowledge of the Russian alphabet (not so useless, as it helped when trying to get off at the right train station in Bosnia).
