Oh, I really want to read this, but would I not understand it unless I'm familiar with FFVI? Is there some background info I should check up before I read it? :D

Oh, I haven't read that yet--but ugh, I'm kind of dreading it. :X I don't even know what to expect. Hopefully it won't be too bad.

I think it's more self-contained than most of my stories, it has a lot of OCs so there's some set up involved.

OKAY, background-- Final Fantasy VI takes place in a world on the brink of industrial revolution. The evil Gesthalian empire is trying to conquer the world, using the forbidden and not-quite-believed force of magic, which they've married with their technology. The Returners are the organized, secret opposition, and they try real hard to get their hands on magic power too. The battle system in FFVI is based around magicite-- which are crystals (but really corpses :/) that can teach you spells and boost stats when you equip them. Locke is one of the game's mainish characters, he's also pretty involved with the Returners since before the start of the game ( ... )

Oh, thank you so much for taking the time to write that up for me! The background was so helpful to know, thanks. :D

Awwww, I love Locke's interaction with Bethany. It made me quite fond of the both of them.

LOL, I'm quite taken with the expression "not the brightest ruby in the dungeon", haha.

Wow, I really like Locke--such an interesting character, and great in his own right. The bit with Bethany not being able to return kind of confused me, and the ending made me sad.

But great writing overall--you should post your writing more often! :)

I think this was sort of a coming of age story for Bethany-- her experience with Locke, this big, larger than life personality, and then what Baker and his goons might of done to her while she was kidnapped, it's a lot for someone with a sheltered life and overactive imagination, to take in. So that's what I was going for with the not going back-- you can't go home again, and all of that.

You had better like Locke ;)

Oh, yes. Yes. ♥ I love it. I love every bit of it. I am too incoherent to review it properly.

:D :D I'm so glad, like really. I was writing this for so long that I wasn't even sure what I made of it anymore. I always worry about getting Locke out of character.

I read half of your fic yesterday and thought about it earlier today. I enjoyed it a lot, and I think you got Locke spot-on. My favorite part was the exaggerated handshake, because I could picture it quite clearly. However, I had trouble figuring how old the girl was, because at times her dialogue seemed more mature than most little girls. I hope you write more for us soon!

She's about thirteen, the reason she's described as a "little girl" is that she seems that way to Locke, at least at first. Also I wanted to make it really clear that this wasn't a love interest right from the get go :P But maybe I could make that a bit clearer, you're right :)

Thanks :D

Oh, wow. I love the little notes, like the bit about the pot-cleaning, and the details about magic. It's a lovely piece.

Thanks a bunch :D The pot cleaning scene might be my favorite, although now typing this out it sounds kind of needlessly sexual :/

I shudder to think how many entries you must have waded back to get here! I guess people don't write VI that often.
