AniTV? Is seriously not that bad. There are certain aspects of it that just suck, but I actually really like the overall sense of the story that the episodes conveyed.
Really? Maybe it's because I never got past the first couple episodes. I wanted to like it, I was so stoked when the show came out, but I honestly couldn't get over their casting choices. Brooke Nevin is grating, IMHO, and the dude they got for Marco is just. not. Marco. I liked Shawn Ashmore and the Cassie, though.
Also, "Things that Never Happened" fics are crack. I, too, have a giant list on my harddrive, to get to someday.
Well, I mean, there are reasons it took me eight years to be able to admit that they're not so horrible. ;) Until recently, I'd never watched past "My Name is Jake II", but once you get away from their attempts at doing scenes from the books, the shows do get better -- as long as one isn't too busy screaming, "But it didn't happen that way!" to notice.
The only really stupid bits are (a) Ax being magic (he rubs a card in his fur and suddenly it'll open any lock in the world, and when Jake's a Controller, he knows just by looking at him) and (b) the Controllers being total wimps ("A lion!! Run away!!"). Most everything else (flashlight-Dracon beams, alien-puppets, etc.) is just a product of crappy budgeting, I'd guess. But the kid who was Tom was great, several Ax-Tobias scenes were spot-on ("Are dead mice tasty?" "They're better alive."), and, while Boris totally didn't work for me either as Marco, he generally did a decent job with what they gave him. Brooke, eh -- nothin' I can say there. She'd've been okay as Melissa or someone, I
