For taking pictures of stuff to buy on E-bay, you wouldn't need more than a simple point-and-shoot that you can get for $20 or so in the toy section. I mean, really.

I dunno if they can be had for $100,-maybe used they could- but many consumer grade canon cameras can be upgraded with a memory card modification. I've done this myself, it's not that hard, and it'll be a long time before I outgrow this camera.

They have $20 digital cameras in the TOY section? Wow. I'm old. In the toy section of what store, though? The only store I ever really go to is the grocery store. Like, ever. I go to other stores maybe four or five times a year. Total.

Yeah, they don't have to be excellent shots or anything - just with better resolution (and a more reliable interface) than the camera in my phone. Taking pictures for eBay listings purposes is the only reason why I have a phone with a camera in it; I have barely ever used it, and the pictures I get out of it are startlingly shitty.

I once got a free digital camera from my friends, which worked for about five days, then it broke once and for all. That was 2 1/2 years ago. I really don't make steps to improve my life very quickly at all.

woot.com often has cheap name-brand digital cameras. usually stuff that has been recently replaced by higher end cameras. i rarely see anything over $100.

it just takes checking out daily.

Honestly, like I said, if you go to a WalMart or somewhere similar, go to wherever they have the disposable cameras. They make extremely cheap digital cameras now that are usually packaged WITH batteries and a manual. At our WalMart they're like $49, and they're decent. 5 mega-pixel resolution, I think.

Also, check the Portland craigslist under 'photo + video'. People ALWAYS have cheap digitals on there because they're always upgrading to better cameras. Most people who intend for their cameras to earn their keep want DSLRs these days, and as soon as they get a good one in their hands, they ditch the point-and-shoots.

We have two or three older digital cameras, I would just give them to you, but they are not really very good compared to anything from the last few years. It is hard to get a good picture out of them.

For $100 I bought a really nice refurb'd 8MP Canon PowerShot SD1100IS Digital Elph from some seller on Amazon. That will hold me, pretty much, for a long time, it's super easy to use, takes nice point and shoot pictures, but is not for someone who is really into photography. I don't think you probably need that much camera or to spend that much for what you want to do.

I was going to say that you should check out flickr to see what people are able to do with whatever cameras that people say sound good.
