I don't know about you, but I'm not really a fan of black helicopters overstuffed with armed military buzzing low over my town for hour upon hour ( Read more... )

That was my least favorite part about nights in LA. And now they've started doing it off and on here in Oakland, too...grrr. At least so far up here they stick to the daytime. Those searchlight beams on our balcony were a drag.

The first time they buzzed my apartment, I was actually scared. I thought it was crashing because it sounded so low. The second time it happened, I was curious as to what the hell was going on and half expected to hear an explosion or something from downtown, the third time I just blew it off and went to bed....

I did hear about the exercises a couple months ago, and our street got buzzed once by something very low and very loud (which I didn't see). And of course with the DNC right now I hear it's like a scary-ass police state downtown with cars full of guys in black with machine-guns everywhere, obnoxious street closures, and every major government agency all over it like stink on shit. While I am right outside of downtown, I don't leave my block very often and have been fortunate enough to experience this only through TV and second-hand accounts. I had thought, a few months ago, of volunteering for the convention. I very strongly support Obama, and have since he announced. But as it became clear to me what a military nightmare and general clusterfuck the convention was going to be, that idea of volunteering (or even attending at all) did not survive.

Usually when I have helicopters circling around my neighborhood, it usually means a prisoner from the nearby prison, a few blocks away from my house mind you, has escaped. O_o So, um, yeah. Those helicopters make me nervous too.

I noticed them, too, and they made me pretty nervous as well. And then yesterday there were a bunch of news helicopters hovering around the Oaks Bottom. Luckily I soon realized that they were just shooting video of the controlled burn down there, nothing serious. But yeah, very disturbing.
