A massive Star Trek email thread is blowin' up at work right now. (I had no idea my co-workers were such slavering, devoted, opinionated Treksters. I love my job!) Say what you will about the JJ Abrams project - it's bringing the Trekkies out of the woodwork. My pal Jeff Powers is going to go to StarCon this spring (one of the two the massive Trek ( Read more... )

I saw the thing where Jack Nicholson was yammering on about Ambien last night. Like, um, what? "I took Ambien and almost drove off a cliff."

Well, maybe that's because you took too much Viagra.

Everytime I see him I think of the LOTR extras where Elijah Wood tells the story of the Golden Globes Jack Nicholson encounter: "TOO MANY ENDINGS."

I also hated how the news reported that Ledger had "six different prescription meds in his apartment." Dude, I have six different prescription meds in my apartment but it doesn't mean I'm a flippin' junkie.

Same here - and eight or nine over-the-counter sleep or cold remedies.

But now I'm reading that there WAS Ambien in Ledger's apartment. I am getting really tired of all of this. I ought to wait for the tox screen to come back, and stay shut up about the whole thing - but I really don't think Ambien should be taken off the market. There are several other "sleep aid" drugs out there anyway (Good ol' Lunesta!) and hell, you can still buy Benadryl (thank God; in summertime I'd have a hell of a time sleeping, or cleaning my dusty-ass house, without it).

I've had more horrible reactions from OTC cold meds than anything else. Well, except Ativan. *shudder*

I could see if Ledger had benzo withdrawal and died; that is not a good time.

I don't know if I'm going or not, for one thing... if I do, though, I'll fer shure let you know. I know that Jeff and Kathy are FOR SURE going to StarCon, though.

Maybe we should actually PLAN to go to StarFest? Y'know, months in advance? Get hotel rooms sorted, tickets booked and bought, etc.? Because, seriously, that would rock so much. That would be the best opportunity to hang out with you AND geek out majorly at the same time. Whaddya think? (I should even be able to afford it, if I plan well ahead, and maybe open another certificate/account to save up for it.)

waitta waitta waitta.
the internets don't seem to know starcon.
and 'fest is indeed 18-20apr08

i heard from a vendor at the last suck-con here that the nice guy at starland was scaling back (cause he's getting old). i didn't think that meant one convention though....maybe your internets know different things than my internets?

That's my thought... ^_^

Actually, you're a terrible person and should lose your job on Fox News.

The type of blackouts typical of Ambien are like, you take it, and lie in bed, and you black out right before you fall asleep a bit. (It's not unlike the feeling you get if you fall asleep during watching a tv show or listening to music and wake up.) If you are being foolish and mixing it with things, or not lying in bed as directed, this could be a problem.

Ambien can be very useful for serious insomnia, but you have to get a legit prescription, take in all the information and take it VERY SERIOUSLY. Anyone who doesn't take the warning on any type of sleeping pills seriously lacks good judgement. They can mess you up or kill you.

I would be unhappy if it were banned, as there are times every few years when my insomnia would be debilitating without it.
