fifty shades of grey, twilight fanfiction

Last night I was chatting with zarrah04 and we got around to talking about the book "50 Shades of Grey" by E. L James. I haven't read the book (neither had zarrah) but there is a large amount of hoopla surrounding this book. Have any of you heard about this book? It seems it is a Twilight AU, BDSM, fan fiction that was made into an original story. The ( Read more... )

Never heard of it. It's a 3 book series according to Good Reads. The description doesn't make it sound that interesting. No Library in my Cooperative owns it and Amazon is selling the first book for $29.99.

My bosses wife has a close friend who works in a town library in Long Island and they have 250 hold orders for the book. Normally the library would get multiply copies of a requested book but because it is so expensive, they only got one copy. . The bosses wife knows I read fan fiction and because the book was originally a fan fiction, she asked me about it. I did some review reading on Amazon and found out it was a Twilight AU fanfic with lots of sex and BDSM.

I think because it is racy it is getting so much attention.

I hadn't heard of this, but I've just checked it out on Amazon UK and there are three books. They are quite expensive aren't they!!

They are quite expensive aren't they!! Yes, and from what I hear they are very popular. My bosses wife has a close friend who works in a town library in Long Island and they have 250 hold orders for the book. I think that's because it is racy and contains lots of fanfic sex and some BDSM.

It's quite terrible. I read some of it when it was a fanfic. Unbelievable plot and characterization, weird BSDM elements, and not very strong in the grammar department. It did gather a strangely huge following as a fanfic, to the point that some of the fans held a con for the author. Bizarre. Someone loaned me a copy of the story after it was "published" by a ebook press that basically just republishes fanfic from Twilight - it had virtually no editing, it seemed to not have been cleaned up at all.

I've read reviews and my feeling was that it was awful, but you are the first person I know who actually read the fan fiction and the original fic. I'm so glad my instincts on this were right. My bosses wife is very curious about the racy story line but doesn't want to fork out the $30.00. I was thinking of sending her a copy of Nautibitz's "Crave" it has sex even a bit of BDSM but it's Nauti, so it's actually a good story.
