Nippy?

Yesterday, for the first time since March, the temperature didn't go above 40 for the whole day. Wow. No wonder I had been craving cold weather!! That seems like a long time to be above 40 to me. So, this morning, I got up and it was a little chilly in my apartment and when I finally got around to looking at the thermostat at about 8:45, it was ( Read more... )

Didn't go about 40? Didn't go above 40? Either way, I would get the heated blanket out and crank up the thermostat to at least 68.

Also, can you see your breath in the house? This could be a deciding factor.

Yes, I meant above. Oops. Fixed now! I was distracted by some turkeys...

Also, no I can not see my breath. :)

I have to keep the heat in whatever room the piglets are to to at least 68 or they get sick. So of course I'm biased.

Have you considered getting a digital thermostat? A nice programmable one that you can set to have the heat up to 70 as you wake, then down to 62 after the morning, then up to 70 again when you get home from work, then down to 65 late in the evening.

Yup, I have one. It's been set to "off" for the last 3-ish months.

It's set it on, but low, like 60, over night (just in case it dips real cold, you don't freeze) and throw on some extra blankets. Then program it to go up to a more comfortable to walk around in temperature about 20-30 minutes before waking up, then back off when you leave for the day. :)

That sounds like a lot of work for programming. But I probably should just do it.

Depending on your thermostat, it takes a few minutes, but then lasts all year. It saves quite a bit of money too. I used to do it with both the heat, and then the opposite (temp wise) on the AC in the summer to cut down the bills.

Yeah, mine you have to program separately for each day so it takes a bit, plus I get easily confused. :-P Project for tonight!

You haven't turned your head on yet?? Where dost thou live, the tropics? :-p I've had mine on about a month now. I would not have been able to get out of bed otherwise with tears springing to my eyes!

Ha, electric heat! Ah, now it makes sense. I've got 'real' heat now and it's part of rent. BEST part of my apartment! ::knock on wood:: Since I stopped running the A/C and it's become winter, my electric bill has gone down by half. Yay. Electric heat is sucky. :(

I never turn my head on. That's part of my problem.

Yup. My electric bill has been less than $60 and I want it to stay that way! But I also don't want to freeze to death or something. :-P
