Rating: FRT for blood.
Pairing: Spike/Buffy (ish) Spike POV
ONE SHOT/Drabble
COMIC SPOILER ALERT

Summary: Spike's immediate reaction to Buffy losing her arm per issue number 8's cover. It's not beta'd and I'm dead tired, but I needed to write this. So errors galore! Set in season 9 somewhere around issue 8. I took gryfndor_godess's advice for this ( Read more... )

Yay, you wrote it! Very nice. :)

He smelled her blood heavily on the air and the pit of his stomach convulsed with disgust...and hunger.
Gritting his teeth, Spike ignored the nagging instinct to feed.

I really like the bluntness of these lines, of "hunger" and "feed"; no matter how much he loves her, her blood will still appeal to him on a visceral, primal level.

Yup! I had to after we talked. I wanted to make this more gory and detailed, but I was completely out of it. I felt really good though after I wrote this, even if it's not to my liking.

I didn't want to use any pretty words to cover it up. Spike's a vampire, he's going to crave blood. I was going to make this longer, exploring more of Spike's vampire nature...but, yeah, sleep called and forced me to answer.

Glad you like! <3

This was really lovely Tenny! You can really feel his panic. What was interesting was as gory as it was and as hectic as it was, you get a real sense of tenderness throughout it.

Very well done!

Thank you very much Puddin! I wanted there to be more moments between Spike and Buffy. I really thought it was kind of flat in that area, so to be told different really brings a lot of joy to my heart!

Linked here via the Spuffy tag (Are we not friends on LJ? This should be rectified immediately).

Lovelovelove that last line, the connotations and the continuity there. I also really liked how distant the narrative voice is- the whole fic feels foggy, like we're seeing it through distant eyes, and it's so vividly [muted] Spike's emotions that I couldn't tear myself away.

Our friendship status has been rectified! :D

Thank you very much! I was really, really nervous about the last line because those were my feelings specifically and I hate doing that. I added it because I thought this was something Spike and I agreed on.

My mind was pretty foggy last night but after gryfndor-goddess' spectacular fic I had to write this out. So maybe that was why it sounded a bit foggy? Though I was aiming for a bit of surreal narrative...I guess I got lucky!

Comics make me sad, too. I'm not sure if it's the right kind of sadness...

Your story is so vivid and heartbreaking yet ultimately optimistic and life-affirming, it almost reconciles me to this new direction season 9 takes.

I know what you mean about the right kind of sadness. Because the good kind leaves you wanting more or wanting to write fan fic or just in general leaves you with a slightly satisfied feeling. The other type is just depressing.

Thank you very much! I do hope they handle Buffy losing her arm well and Spike's reaction to it. I also hope that she gets her arm back somehow. I rather they regrow it or reattach it than bionic arm, but I think it'll be bionic...

This is very well done. I loved how you captured Spike's emotions immediately following the injury. For me, season 9 has not truly dealt with what I thought would have been some angsty fallout of Season 8. I hope the writers do capture the depth of emotion that you wrote for Spike for whoever helps her. But I doubt it...

Thank you so very much! I was so worried that I didn't write Spike's reaction right, that the pacing was too slow or that it wasn't intense enough.

I get that, the not dealing with season 8 stuff part. I don't think they'll deal with it to our satisfaction, but it's still early and I think by the end of it we might be pleasantly surprised! :)
