So Dimitri came home from school Friday with a letter from the superintendent's office. Nothing bad regarding him. Instead it covered a speech that is coming up. I'll give you the beginning of the letter so you can see it word for word ( Read more... )

A lot of parents are against it, since they see it as a form of progressive/socialist indoctrination. There are radio/TV commercials out there were they show students "pledging" loyalty to Obama and his policies. A lot of people do not want their kids to have to face this kind of pressure, especially when they do not yet understand the Constitution and what it entails. Like the fact the President is an elected official whom we elect to make sure our laws are enforced and that we have a strong military to protect our freedoms, the President is in no ways a "leader of the U.S.A.", and as such he really has no power to seek "pledges of loyalty" from the citizenry, which are actually his boss, not his serfs. Unfortunately, students don't study government until they are seniors in high school.

The way you say parts of that it makes it seem that there's an 'Obama's army' that he wants to make of all the little children. From what I've seen about this speech in particular there's nothing about pledging loyalty or any of that to him. If anything it would be pledging to themselves to stay with school, finish it out, do their best and so on. Which I agree with. More kids need to pledge to finish school and not drop out for example.

More kids need to finish school, period. A pledge is just words to most people.
