Title: When Everything Changes
Author: Emily-chan
Fandom: Prince of Tennis
Type: light shounen-ai... sorta
Characters: Syuusuke/Yuuta (I promise it won’t squick you)
Rating: G
Disclaimer: Prince of Tennis is property of Konomi Takeshi, etc. and is not mine at all.
Time: 50 minutes (I admit to being an agonizingly slow writer, but in my defense, this was written longhand.)
Notes: This is my first time writing for the community. I’m hoping that doing this sort of thing will help improve my writing skills, which are severely lacking.

The figures loom over you, and they seem so much larger than they did just a moment ago, or maybe it’s because you feel so much smaller. You really wish now that you hadn’t kicked sand at the biggest one when he’d made that crack about your scar, but there’s nothing you can do about it now except close your eyes and wait for it to start.

“Don’t touch him!” a voice shouts, and it’s his voice, but there’s an edge to it that you’ve never heard before. You open your eyes and he’s standing there, arms outstretched, shielding you even though his body is barely bigger than yours. And you know then, that somehow, everything will be all right, because he’s there, and you catch just the slightest glint of blue as he casts a deadly glare at your attackers.

You watch him as you walk home together. He ignores the glances from the other people on the street, standing tall and proud, as if the two of you weren’t covered in dirt and bruises. As if everything were normal.

But everything isn’t normal.

Everything is different now. Everything changed when that first blow fell; that punch that was meant for you, but bruised his face instead. You see him differently now. You think about him, feel about him differently now, and everything that was so simple has become complicated, and you wish more than anything that you could go back to the way things were, but you know you can’t. And this knowledge churns inside of you until your feet refuse to move and your eyes fill with tears and you sink to your knees because you just don’t know what else to do. His arms wrap around you and he takes out a handkerchief to clean your face, even though he’s worse off than you are.

“Shh, Yuuta. It’ll be okay.”

But you shake your head and cry even harder, because you know that it won’t be okay. This sort of thing wasn’t supposed to happen. The brother you had always looked up to and adored is different to you now, and you’re different, and the people walking on the street are different, and nothing will ever be the same again, because now you know the truth.

Aniki fights like a girl.
