I know a LOT of people who have trouble with this book, especially that opening scene. I know of one reader who read that opening scene WHILE ACTUALLY MAKING THE SAME LANDING IN THE SAME AIRPORT!!! Said reader looked outside, said, "No way in hell," and knew this book wasn't going to work. :)

Here's my review from forever ago (I was far more forgiving in that review than I should've been): http://calico-reaction.livejournal.com/62518.html

That's too funny! I have limited experience in airplanes (in a post 9/11 world, it's just too much of a pain in the ass to fly), so I kept on second guessing myself on that one. In the end, I decided it just wasn't plausible. Glad that someone was able to validate it :)

The detail provided pretty much makes such a scene IMPOSSIBLE to see from a plane, and I can't believe I didn't mention that in my review, because at the time, I was flying pretty regularly.
