In the recent years, I have become wary of YA books. But Holly Lisle's series gripped me. I like how you described it as a 'slow burn'. :)

With the recent rise in popularity in YA books, there seem to be a lot of titles that are more of less cashing in on the trend, but Black is one of those authors that seems to genuinely love writing for teenagers, and you can tell with this one.

Which Holly Lisle series are you referencing, if you don't mind me asking?
