Sorry this wasn't your cup of tea. I still haven't really gathered my thoughts on this one, though I'd better get to it, since my review is due to go up Monday!

Yeah, I was kind of surprised at my reaction because most of the reviews I've read were positive. Maybe it's just not the book for me personally.

Good luck getting your thoughts together.

There were so many things about this book that drove me insane -- I couldn't even get to the 100 page mark.

The showing-over-telling got to me really quick. For example, Audrey's OCD felt really... jarring when it was revealed. And we're constantly told by the omniscient narrator all these things about Audrey that I could have figured out from the text myself.

Audrey felt a bit like a Special Snowflake too: she's gorgeous when you take the time to look at her, she was top of her class at her architecture school, she got a placement and a job no problem when everyone else struggled, etc. She had her flaws too, which I guess may have been an attempt to make her more well-rounded or something, but they just made me dislike her more. :/

I was hoping the horror elements would reel me back in, but I couldn't even make it that far. From the looks of your review, it doesn't seem like the horror elements were all that good anyway.

Yeah, the author didn't always seem aware of her own audiences intelligence. Maybe there's a reason for that. She has written books before and maybe things were too vague for people in those books. There were just so many scenes that seemed to just emphasize the fact that Audrey was crazy. By the time I got halfway though the book I just wanted to say "Okay! I get it she's nuts!" Maybe it would have been different if it was a slow build of craziness, but it wasn't. It was pretty much "okay I'm getting settled in the new apartment, I'M TOTALLY CRAZY!"

And yeah the horror aspects didn't quite work for me either.

Reading this right now and having mixed feelings so far. The major problem I'm having is that I think Audrey is pretty unsympathetic.

Yeah I noticed that too. It's so strange, given her sad back story, you'd think I'd at least feel sorry for her but I just was annoyed with her.
