Is it necessary to read them in order? I've been quite fascinated by your reviews and only just discovered my library system seems to have quite a few titles in the series. I've put on order for #1

Edit: checking Wiki and library catalogue looks like I am ok up to Vol 9.

To answer you're question, although this particular volume can be read at any point (as it's a prequel), from what I've read so far I'd certainly read the rest of the series in order.
