Getting caught in a rainstorm was considered by some to be quite romantic. At that very moment, Peri decided it was a damned inconvenience. They had been casually walking when the storm broke, and now they ran, hand in hand toward the TARDIS. The temperature dropped rapidly, and by the time they reached the police box, the heavy rain had turned to sleet. The Doctor’s frozen fingers fumbled with the key, and it took him longer than usual to get the door open.

They both fell into the console room, freezing, and soaked through. The Doctor took off his coat and hung it on the coat rack. Turning back to the console, he saw Peri standing there, dripping wet and nearly blue. Her arms were raised and she was running her fingers through her wet hair.

“What happened? It was a warm sunny day not ten minutes ago!”

The Doctor stared intently into her face. “Yes, well,” he coughed. “Freak weather pattern, I guess,” he said, unable to tear his eyes from Peri’s face.

“Freak is the word. I thought you said this would be a lovely vacation spot!” She was bouncing on one foot, her head to the side. “I’ve got water in my ear,” she complained.

Still, the Doctor just stared at her face. “Yes, well,” he coughed again. “With a strong enough wind, the rain seems to fall sideways.”

“Obviously.” Peri straightened up and noticed the Doctor staring intently at her. No, not at her, he was looking at her eyes. “Doctor?”

“Hmm?” He was distracted by something.

She began to rub her face self-consciously. “Is there something on my face?”

“No,” he said with all seriousness, his eyes never wandering from hers.

“Well, what is it?” she asked innocently.

Finally he turned his back to her, took his wet coat from the coat rack and wrapped it around her. “Please. Go have a nice cup of hot tea.” He pushed her from the room.

Peri stood in the corridor, somewhat confused. Opening the coat she looked down at her clothes. Her cream coloured shorts and white shirt were soaked through, and the freezing temperatures didn’t help matters either. Wrapping the heavy wet coat around her, she began to laugh as she made her way to her room and warm dry clothes.
