There came, then, a slight knock at the door, hesitant and soft. Ashe was almost sure this was a mistake, she had felt it such as she'd walked over to Balthier's place from her own, but sheer determination and will kept her going.

She was worried about the pirate, a feeling not unknown but somewhat unwelcome, and she knew that the only way to rid herself of that feeling was to visit him and see how he was doing.

So here she was, standing at his door, knocking and mentally chiding herself for being a fool, fingers absently rubbing that spot where Rasler's ring once kept itself. And if that wasn't enough, Balthier wasn't being prompt enough for her liking.

What, she thought to herself, is keeping him?

Balthier looked up at the knock and frowned. Who, oh who, could that possibly be? He didn't remember expecting any sort of company. And if past experience had taught him nothing, it had definitely taught him that unexpected visitors were not something to be relished, at all. He pondered the gun for a moment-- but as it was, it was completely useless to him, halfway between being cleaned.

So, he stood up without it, unafraid of using his fists if it were really necessary.

Oh, but that would be far too normal, and easy to expect. The thought crossed his mind, once, but he decided it better to err on the side of caution for now.

But lo! The surprises Template always had for him, when who should he see on the other side of the door but Her Royal Highness, herself. His eyes widened slightly, before the typical smug smirk appeared on his face.

"Your highness. To what do I owe the honor this time?"

"You've been acting strange as of late. I thought to stop by and make sure you were not ill." That was probably all he was going to get out of her on the matter; admitting any more than that would be admitting to things she didn't want to think about, as they were, probably, better left unthought.

She stood in the doorway for a few terse seconds, before raising an eyebrow, and tilting her head to the side. "Are you not going to invite me in?"

"Not going to invite you in? You haven't given me the chance yet," Balthier said, lightly all things considered. He stood aside, making way for her to step inside of the house, where his unfinished work clearly lay. No matter, he'd finish it later if he had to.

"Your concern is touching, your highness," Balthier said simply. It didn't sound as cynical as he could have made it, at least. He couldn't really ignore that she had taken a chance to at least ensure he was alright.
