Roxas ... didn't want to be home. The gas wearing off had meant his strange high had gone with it, and in had flowed the knowledge of just how much he really didn't like his living situation.

Not that living with your friends was bad. But when you could hear your best friend going at it every night through the far-too-thin ceiling...

It drove Roxas to the streets. Now that he was back in his right mind, anyway. He just wanted to be out, where he could feel the sun on his face and get a moment of peace. So he let his feet wander and take him where they would, not really caring to be back any time soon.

That was when he caught a flash of silver hair down the street. It was enough to make him pause and look again .. then stop dead in his tracks. Was that ... Riku? Roxas stood in silence for a moment, just .. staring. He couldn't really say why, but he found himself making his way over to the other boy.

After all, why not? It's not like he had anything to lose.

In the midst of standing, stumped, at a street corner, Riku began to feel an itch crawling up the back of his neck. He recognized it as that simple inexplicable sense that somebody, somewhere, was watching him with more than just an idle glance.

He was stricken between either ignoring the person - whoever they were - or summoning his Keyblade merely because he felt a bit paranoid in general about this place and its shady melange of characters. Riku had met a few of their old enemies already, along with probably the creepiest clown he'd ever seen in his life. Who knew what he'd find if he chose to turn around?

Damn it. He really was being paranoid. What was this? Some cheap horror flick? Just turn around.

By now Riku could hear the feet approaching him as he spun on his heel to face whoever it was. Those footsteps had seemed only dimly familiar to him before, and now he stopped dead with the letter S still sizzling on the tip of his tongue.

"... Roxas?"

The way Riku said his name made Roxas stop just a few steps short. He didn't know whether he wanted to smirk or frown at the way Riku had probably wanted to say Sora? Is that you? Always Sora. Why should it be anyone else?

Roxas shook his head, trying to clear it of the sudden dark thoughts trying to crowd out his original reason for coming over here. It wasn't like he had any grudge against Riku .. not here, not now. That was long since done with. Right?

"Hi, Riku." Unable to help a sigh, he closed the distance until he was standing just in front of the taller boy. Tilting his head up to meet Riku's eyes, Roxas gave him a searching look. The tense set to his shoulders, his expression... Riku was clearly unsettled, for whatever reason. What was he doing out here, anyway? "You alright?"

Riku meanwhile eyed the smaller boy with mixed emotions. If he was here, where was Sora? His Sora, not some fake or replica or whatever the hell they were. He soon found that he too had to shake himself from dark thoughts, putting his concern in a safer place where it wouldn't lash out at his friend's Nobody for something that was unlikely to be his fault.

Besides, Roxas was a part of Sora. Riku liked him a lot better than many of the other Nobodies he'd met. He'd had no choice but to fight him, and he'd paid for it in the end by letting the darkness take over.

This meant, of course, that Roxas wasn't all smiles to see him but he couldn't really blame him for that. But when he started staring him down with Sora's eyes Riku avoided his gaze, pretending to be looking for street signs or helpful landmarks. "I'm fine." He pocketed his hands, glancing back at the blond. "What about you? Why are you here?"
