Characters: Luke Skywalker [Original], Padmé Amidala (Skywalker) [Original]. Setting: Skywalker residence. Time: Yesterday. Summary: Family having a breakdown. Warnings: Spoilers for Star Wars? (*laughs*)
Barring Mustafar, Padme couldn't remember a time she'd been so miserable. Her family seemed to be falling apart and she had absolutely no idea what to do about it. Separatist planets? Easy. Impending galactic war? Easy. But this was far from it.
She'd been looking for Luke not only because she was worried about him but because Anakin had suggested she do so, and she was still trying to ignore the fact that her husband had thrown that mailbox without intending to miss. The only reason she hadn't given him more of a reaming over that was because she was terrified he'd leave again. But hearing Luke's voice brought up a strange mixture of relief and fear, and as soon as she saw him she hugged him tightly.
Without meaning to hurt her feelings, Luke winced when Padme hugged him. Of course, he tried to quickly tell her that it wasn't that he didn't want her to comfort him. "Ow. Yeah, little bit. Just my shoulder. Little bruised." He would probably have to suffer for a while given the fact that he did have a mailbox thrown at him. "That's not important
( ... )
Padme tried not to get angry all over again. She wasn't quite sure if it was working. "Was it... Because of your father?" She tried to tell herself that he would certainly never do something like that again, but it scared her when she realized she wasn't completely sure.
She immediately winced at that. Of course she hadn't been trying to protect him. He was far too old to protect. Even if she hadn't seen him grow up, she knew that. It had simply slipped her mind, perhaps because she hated to think of it herself.
"I understand. The Chancellor was..." Padme hesitated, uncertain of what to say. Was there any way she could make this less devastating? "He was a mentor to both of us, Luke. You have to understand, he was, if nothing else, a great actor. He pretending to worry about and be very protective of me. I'm sure he had no problem brushing off my death to the public. Your father and I... We never had any idea until it was too late."
"Yeah, but it's okay. I mean, he's a good person still." That's what she believed and he was trying to believe it too. Ben had said that Anakin was a good person, but it seems like he is something of a lousy father. Still, Luke would jokingly say that at least he doesn't make him go out and tend to some moisture farm, if that would make his mother feel better.
"But how? Why? The Force would have told Father and the other Jedi that he was evil. Why couldn't they tell sooner?" Luke knew that it was pointless to be so upset. There was little to no way to change the way that the future happened even if his parents were here and could be sent back. The three of them were all dead -- even though his father seemed to be having problems with accepting that for some reason. Maybe that means that I can't be sent back?

"What's wrong? You're not hurt, are you?"
