Axel knew it was a bad idea. Running off half-cocked, while certainly his modus operandi, wasn't a smart thing to pull when any of the other Organization members were concerned, especially Marluxia. If there was ever anyone with a chip on his shoulder...but whatever. The freak had it coming to him.

Axel also knew that there was something close to anger in him. The memory of it, if anything. Not a smart way to go into a fight, but he wasn't too concerned. He'd finish this, and at least he wouldn't have to put up with that smug face. And it was an investment. A measure against any future...trouble.

That was what he was telling himself as he stepped out of the portal into the slums, posture relaxed, a start contrast to the way his eyes focused on that unfortunately familiar figure.

"Hope you didn't wait too long. Wouldn't want you to get boredom and end up distracted by butterflies and bright colors."

Ah, and just on time. With the usual, loud announcements, no less. "I'm certain that I could think up far more pleasant distractions," the remark was tossed off in an almost uncharacteristically flippant manner. There were important tasks to take care of than a meaningless banter.

From behind him, the walls were already crawling with thorned vines- nothing too particular, but it did add to the 'atmosphere'.

"I do hope you weren't too set on winning. You may have to brace yourself for a bit of disappointment."

Show-off. It figured. "Funny. I was about to say the same thing to you."

But if he wanted to play the staging game, that was just fine with Axel. He threw out one hand, quickly followed by the other, chakrams appearing in his grip with a whirl of fire and darkness. Behind him, a wall of flame roared into being, though kept mostly in check. He'd gotten crap for burning down buildings too many times before for him to make the mistake of doing it again. Besides, Axel didn't feel like dealing with any interruptions.

He smirked, lifting his chin. "You're probably pretty used to failure by now, anyway. You don't exactly have the best track record."

This time, he did well in hiding the smirk. Only just begun, and already as expected. Best to let him believe he had the lead; Throwing the traitor off-guard would prove an easy task to accomplish.

"Do I?" despite an almost biting tone, Marluxia's demeanor was of utter calm as he summoned his own weapon- the large scythe. "I do look forward to proving you wrong."

And so it begun. Rather than wait for Axel's first move right away, he settled for taunting him into it by blasting a storm of petals in his direction. Not that he harboured any belief of stopping him with the weak attack- consider his first move more of a... test.
