"Tsk." Kristoph tightened his grip, twisting the chain until it bit into Klavier's neck. He swatted away the arm, grinning sickly to himself as he leaned in, his eyes set on Klavier's,

"...I always said that I could never harm you, Klavier. Regrettably, in this, you have forced my hand, brüderlein."

He smiled serenely for a moment. "And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest."

Kristoph's eyes widened for a moment, his hand spasming as the breath caught in his throat.

The words oh shit had never been prominent in Klavier's mind, not even when he had stepped in horse dung. He grabbed onto the arm holding his chain, scrabbling uselessly.

"No..." He gasped, terrified. He was going to die, again, and because of his own stupidity.

"Goodnight."

The pipe came down, and he was sparing no force at it. Again and again, and he was laughing. He continued, even long after he was certain the deed was done, determined not only to finish Klavier off, but leave his corpse unrecognizable.

Finally, the laughter died down into something close to choking sobs and he sank to the floor, half-spattered with blood and other tissue, holding Klavier's body as one might cradle a child.

His eyes were distant, his hands shaking, and he dropped the bloody pipe, letting it clatter against the floor and roll away.

Klavier hadn't died instantly. He had twisted and tried to get away, the chain digging into his neck. Further blows had only served to dent his skull in more, and he cried out, though his voice gave up the ghost before he had. At some point during the ordeal, he had grabbed onto the front of Kristoph's suit, and held on for dear life.

But it wasn't enough. One of the blows came down just hard enough to knock him out, and his grip slackened. Another blow snapped his neck, and he went completely limp. And when it was all over, his lifeless body was broken. Kristoph may have been cradling him tenderly, but there would be no response from Klavier.
