Sam would never really tell anyone---especially anyone Dean-shaped---but he could enjoy a good tub of ice cream and crappy Lifetime movie just as much as the next heterosexual woman who had a sorrowful pit in her stomach and a lot of unhappy calories with which to fill it. He'd edged in on his one real girlfriend, Jess, at the tail-end of a violent breakup. The fact that he'd been quietly sympathetic and had brought a gallon of double-chocolate ripple ice cream to their study date was probably what had won her over, really.

His interest in Rose's happiness was an empathatic one, nothing more than him knowing what that kind of betrayal felt like and not wanting her to have to work through it on her own. Besides, he thought ruefully as he hiked his jeans up a little after walking up the stairs to her apartment, it wasn't like he couldn't benefit from a couple thousand extra calories.

Forcing himself to take a deep breath, he knocked on the door.

Rose opened the door and gave Sam a small quirk of a smile, and a falsely cheerful "hi."

She led him to the living room, and pointed to a stack of movies on the table. Having no clue what he liked, or even what was good, so she decided that the best course of action would be to let him choose the movie, especially since he seemed to have some experience in this area. "I picked out a bunch from the shop down the road. You can choose, though. I don't really care which one we watch."

If she'd implied aloud that she was letting him choose because he seemed to have "more experience" in the area of weepy chickflicks, what was left of his manly pride would have combusted on the spot. He'd never been classically masculine like, say, Dean or their father, but he was definitely still a guy. He was just more...liberal in his ideas regarding gender roles.

Sam picked out one DVD at random, mostly because the blond heroine on the front looked appropriately mournful.

He smiled absently, shrugging and setting down the grocery bag with the ice cream he'd brought. "Cheap therapy."

Rose put the movie in, and while they waited for the menu to pop up, went and grabbed spoons and bowls from the kitchen. The only experience she had with this sort of event was watching her mum and Bev do the same thing whenever a guy broke up with one of them, or something else equally tragic happened in their lives. Whenever Rose was upset, her friends would just take her out clubbing and they'd all spend the next morning having a lie-in in one of their flats with bad hangovers.

She offered Sam a bowl and spoon set, and pressed play. "What kind did you bring?"
