"tryangle" is actually a pretty good term for the virginals, though (as this page demonstrates) they were often enclosed in a box of another geometric shape, polygonal, trapezoidal, rectangular. The string configuration is still a triangle.

Yes, I can see how it would make sense! I'd never heard of it, though (I wonder if it's Pepys' own idiosyncratic term?), so at first I was very confused by the entry. :)
