What should I find on the new books display at the bookstore yesterday, after my recent rant about historical fiction as written about in the Guardian, but Viper Wine by Hermione Eyre? So I…bought it, obviously. (Like this story was going to have another ending?) It will probably be a little while before I get around to reading it, because that is ( Read more... )

I'll be curious to read your thoughts on Viper Wine. I, in the meantime, found my battered old copy of The Once and Future King and am rereading it for the first time in forever...only to discover that I barely remember any of it. So this should be interesting!

For what it's worth, I love enchiladas but cannot for the life of me figure out how to make them without the tortillas falling apart around the filling.

I don't know when I'll actually read it - I think it was one of those purchases meant to support the author/bookstore - but I'm sure I'll post about it when I do!

The package of tortillas had special instructions on how to treat the tortillas for making enchiladas, but I remain skeptical. Maybe they just always fall apart anyway?

I've been told that there's some magical temperature at which they will bend but not break. I keep either overcooking them or undercooking them, which probably says more about my subpar cooking skills than anything else. ;-)

I can see where that would be really hard to get right, though! Ovens are so finicky and variable in temperature.

1. When you read that book, I look forward to your thoughts!!

2. Oh my goodness that taco filling sounds amazing though. Like. It's almost midnight as I write this, I should not be hungry, and yet I want to run to the 24hr supermarket right now and buy ingredients. (Spoiler: I will not do this, that's what tomorrow is for.)

2a. TACOS. ARE SO GOOD. But I always need a fork, too. :)

I will definitely write about the book when I read it!

The really nice thing about the tacos was that aside from the black beans, I didn't really have to cook or season anything (although I did "massage" the kale earlier in the week with some olive oil, to make it tender and easier to eat; this was the last of the batch), so I couldn't really get anything wrong. :)
