I am entirely too amused by the fact that in the credit sequence for Wolf Hall, Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Harry Lloyd got a title card all to themselves, seeing as they were both in "Human Nature/Family of Blood."

costume drama, doctor who, eight actors in britain, tudor stuff, this is my other pbs tag

So, what did you think of this first episode? I thought that to say that Mark Rylance phoned in his performance was overstating its effect.

I just…don't think I understand Mark Rylance anymore. He seemed practically affectless last night - even when Cromwell's wife and children died, he barely seemed moved at all.

It was nice to look at, though!

That's what I meant--with that strange, sideways, sort of side-eye smirk that was his sole expression, it's as though the show was happening around him, yet he's supposed to be the hero.

Yeah, I felt the same way. I suppose there's a fine line between "silent, canny observer" and "blank-faced lurker," but Mark Rylance wound up on the wrong side of the line for me!
